7months with Aila and Frankie!

birthdaybash

7months here we come!! How time is just flying! Today I’m welcoming Laurie from Aila and Frankie. Laurie is a new designer but definitely one you will want to get to know. Ruth and I had the pleasure of testing her first pattern release the Honeyflower Dress and Tunic. We love it! She actually wore it to church yesterday too. It really is perfect for any occasion!

RTC_8576

Let’s see what Ruth is doing before telling more about the pattern though. She now weighs 14lbs10oz and 26″! That puts her at the 12% for weight and 35% for height. She loves things that crinkle. She also got her first tooth and first cold, both of which happened at the same time. Needless to say she was pretty miserable then, but she still was an easy baby regardless. She just needed extra cuddles. This mommy was more than happy to give those!

RTC_8777

Back to the pattern! This pattern offers a huge range of sizes from 0-3mo to 14yrs.RTC_8785 It features a halter top with a cute ruffle down the bodice. The back is elastic so it will fit nicely. The bottom features a tulle peek-a-boo hem that is attached to the lining.RTC_8618 Now you can leave the lining/tulle off or put another trim on the lining for a whole different look! I choose my look to be princess like! Isn’t it cute?? I just love it!! Oh and don’t let the standing photo fool you. She can’t really stand. I was just insanely fast to capture that!

RTC_8599

Hats off, I mean ON, to Whimsy Couture!

Finally getting my girl after two boys was just great! Now I get to dress her too. If you are like me, I took full advantage of this. What exactly does that mean? Dresses, ruffles, lace, ribbons, oh my! Yes she is always dressed like a girl. After awhile though I was getting a bit tired of bows or headbands being the only option when it came to putting the final touches on an outfit. I needed some cute hats! Well Whimsy Couture answered the call.

RTC_0107

RTC_0299Last week they put out two hat patterns: The Bow Turban Hat and The Ruched Beanie. Both patterns are really fast sews which is always a plus in my book! Now add how cute they look and I knew these were going to be amazing! Let’s take a closer look at them shall we?

RTC_0212

RTC_0225

First let’s look at the Ruched Beanie. This comes in sizes NB-Ladies. RTC_0260Perfect for coordinating mother/daughter outfits. For this pattern you do need to know how to shirr as that is what gives the beanie that ruching. The tutorial walks you through shirring though, so if you have never taken the plunge, now is the perfect time to do so! The top of the beanie is roomy for those growing heads or lots of hair. RTC_0268 It stays securely on though with a band that fits snugly yet comfortably. In the tutorial Denise does walk you through on how to round off the beanie. I rounded off the one for my daughter but kept it more pointed for me. It’s just more fun that way! Comfortable yet fashionable…this is one beanie that veers away from the traditional style to make an awesome girly one!

RTC_0306

Now my favorite of the two is the Bow Turban Hat.RTC_0166 I absolutely LOVE this one. Perhaps it’s the vintage feel (remember I love vintage) or the comfort. Either way this is a win in my book! This one ranges in sizes 3months-Ladies. Again mother/daughter matching is a must!RTC_0688 The tutorial walks you through how to make the turban and the bow with easy to follow steps. Hand sewing is involved in this one. Actually, you could make the whole thing with hand sewing if your machine was out of commission or if you just wanted to. Or perhaps you have a young one wanting to learn to sew?  RTC_0618This would also be a great first sewing project for the beginner seamstress whether young or old! Now the tutorial has you sew the bow right to the turban. I decided to add a band over the knot instead in order to be able to attach any clip I desire. Why be limited to just a bow?

RTC_0387

Would you like to learn how to add the band too? I knew you would and that is why I created this tutorial at the end of the post just for you! Before I begin the tutorial though let me tell you how you can get your own copies of these amazing hats. Head on over to the Whimsy Couture website to pick up both the Ruched Beanie and the Bow Turban Hat. These are on sale right now for $2.50 each!!!!! With the ease of construction, range of sizes, and cuteness factor…well you just can’t go wrong!

RTC_0634

Tutorial for adding the band to the Bow Turban Hat:

Cut a strip of your fabric for the band. Mine is 5in x 3in and I’m making the 3-12mo hat. You may have to make your strip wider depending on how big your knot is, however I used this same size for my adult hat too. I really try to get my knot as small as possible though!

RTC_0770

Fold strip in half RST matching the long raw edges. Sew a 3/8” seam down the raw edge.

RTC_0771

Turn your tube and press so that the seam is in the middle.

RTC_0777

RTC_0780

Take one raw end and fold it down 1/4” and press. Fold another 1/4” and press again.

RTC_0781

Turn your hat inside out. We will be attaching the strip to the inside of the hat first. Align the folded edge of the strip on top of the knot making sure it covers all the edges of the knot. You can adjust the gathers on the hat if you want in order to make sure they look even. Don’t smooth them out though! You want the gathers under the strip. Pin in place.

hat

RTC_0786

Sew a 1/8” seam on the top of the strip.

RTC_0787

Turn your hat right side out and pull the strip towards the front of the hat. My strip is longer than I need as I like to adjust it at this point. Pull your strip as tight or loose as you want it and see where it hits the top of the front knot. Now measure 1/2” beyond that point and cut your strip there.

RTC_0790

Now fold the small raw edge of the strip 1/4” and press. Fold another 1/4” and press again.

RTC_0791

Align your folded edge right over your previous stitches. Pin in place.

RTC_0792

Sew 1/8” from the edge. Cut your threads and you are done!

RTC_0799

Now you can insert any clip you would like through the loop! Bow, flower, nothing…the possibilities are endless!

6months in style with Little Kiwis Closet!

birthdaybash

Half way through the year now!! Yes, that is 6months for those that aren’t quite awake to do the math yet. We have Little Kiwi’s Closet to help us celebrate today!! Ruth and I have tested many times for Little Kiwi; in fact we are testing another pattern right now. Lydia never disappoints with her patterns!

RTC_7794

Ruth just keeps on growing and is getting stronger and stronger. She can now sit by herself! This makes her photo shoots a bit easier too. You may have noticed the appearance of earrings as she got her ears pierced. Do you notice the drool in some of the pics? She is teething but still has that gummy bear smile! Ruth still loves her bottles but is eating some foods now too. Her favorite is steamed carrots. She just loves her brothers and they can make her giggle all the time. She is just one happy baby!!

RTC_7503

The pattern that Ruth got to test with me this month is one that you can use all year round.RTC_7808 It also has tons of options. Can you guess which one it is from Little Kiwi‘s Closet? It’s Bella’s Bolero! This great pattern comes in sizes NB-12yrs. You can create many different looks as it includes 3 Views – curved no ties, inward curve with ties and a ballet wrap and 3 Sleeve options (puff, long and 3/4). The one on Ruth is the curved with no ties and 3/4 sleeve. Isn’t it just darling? Best part yet is this is a fast sew!!! I love instant gratification!

Month 5 with Everything Your Mama Made!

birthdaybashWho doesn’t love comfy knit clothes? Today we look back at month 5! Ruth is soo comfy in her Riley’s Nightgown and Sleep Shirt by Everything Your Mama Made that she fell asleep during the photoshoot.

RTC_4530

Ruthie is growing by leaps and bounds now. She is learning to sit and is tri-poding. She discovered her tongue and loves to stick it out all the time. She doesn’t like to be swaddled anymore and outgrew her Moses basket. She drinks about 4-6oz a feeding and gets so excited when she sees her bottle. She is quite the diva at daycare too!

RTC_4466

One thing I love about this pattern is that it veers away from the traditional idea of a nightgown or nightshirt.RTC_4452 That traditional idea being a gown or pants and shirt made of flannel or woven. Instead this pattern gives you a very comfy knit unisex nightgown or night shirt. You don’t need two separate patterns to make this one for your boys or girls!! It comes in sizes nb-18 youth. RTC_4548Yes you read that correctly. One pattern, 19 sizes!!! This pattern features a raglan sleeve with two sleeve lengths (short or long), two body lengths (traditional nightgown or shorter night shirt), and a peek a boo hem. This is so perfect for upcycles too. Ruth’s nightgown is completely made from an upcycle! Did I mention there is also a matching women’s pattern too?

RTC_4519So do you want your own copy? Well go enter!!! I can’t believe you haven’t already!! Here is the link to a Rafflecopter giveaway.   Of course you can go buy it here too! Want to see more of the cute clothes Ruth had the pleasure of testing for EYMM? Head on over to her blog to see more!

4months with Titchy Threads!

birthdaybash

4months old! That’s a third way through the year. Time really does go by fast. We are lucky enough to celebrate with Laura from Titchy Threads today too! Let’s take a look at the Small Fry Skinny Jeans. I just love these little jeans on all my kids. Let’s take a look at the pair I tested for Ruth. But you know the drill; let’s see little miss has been up to first though!

RTC_4255

She is now in 3-6mo clothes as she is 11lbs and 24inches long. Still loves standing when someone is holding her. She got to help decorate the Christmas tree and even met Santa! Also she was discharged from her Cardiologist!! Yay! (She was born with a little hole between her ventricles and atriums. Quite common and she never had symptoms except a murmur.)

RTC_3682

Are you ready for the jeans? SmallFry_07This was the first time I ever looked at something I made and said to myself, “Wow, I made that?” Even my mom asked me that too! Yes it was that awesome. Who knew it would be a pair of jeans that would give me that sense of accomplishment? But it did! The Small Fry Skinny Jeans have all the looks that store bought jeans have: topstitching, pockets, enclosed seams, etc. Laura did such a great job in the tutorial that all these elements, plus others, seem so easy. SmallFry_08This pattern comes in two size ranges: 0-3mo-3T and 3Y-12Y. They also can be bought together. There are so many features with this pattern too. You ready for them all?? It includes faux half fly, full zipper fly, inset pockets, patch pockets, coin pocket, adjustable waist, two waistband options, instructions for reversing fly for girls, full pant length, and shorts length. Like I said it’s pretty awesome.

RTC_4205

RTC_4249

Psst…the Kimono shirt shown here is also a Titchy Threads shirt.  It only comes in a 0-3months but its free!!  Get it here!

RTC_4085

Now it’s time to enter the giveaway to get your own copy if you haven’t already. Just follow this link to a Rafflecopter giveaway!!
You can also purchase the pattern here if you need it now. I’m thinking…back to school!

3months is Sweet with Sewing Mama Raeanna!

birthdaybash

3 months here we come! How time is flying by. A lot is happening as the holidays are nearing! Don’t you just love how everything gets crazier near the holidays? This month we are celebrating with Sewing Mama Raeanna and the Cupcake Top. It is as sweet as the name too! Let’s find out how my little sweetie is doing first.

RTC_3162

Ruthie is a growing girl! She now weighs 10lbs and is 23inches long! Yes, I had my weight and length wrong in the 2mo post, but it is fixed now! She is eating around 3-4oz every 2-3hrs. She gets up once or twice during the night to eat and usually wakes up in the morning with a smile on her face!  She loves eating her hands and sometimes gags herself doing it. Silly girl! She also loves standing on everyone’s lap if they are holding her and they always comment on how strong her legs are!! She got to celebrate her first Thanksgiving too! This mama had a lot to be thankful for on this Thanksgiving!!

RTC_3204

Now it’s time for a cupcake! No not the food, although I’d eat one if I had one. Here is the Cupcake Top. Raeanna does a great job making this top and tutorial. I just love that this sweet top can be made to look girly or boyish. It ranges in sizes 3-6mo to size 6. This knit top is made to be slim fitting with a kangaroo pocket. You can leave the pocket off, but what kid doesn’t like a pocket?RTC_3097 For girls just add ruffles to the pocket, sleeves, and hemline to really girliefy it! Now the pattern calls for all knit but I had a little fun getting ready for Christmas and used some Christmas woven for my pocket and ruffles. My vision worked and Ruth had fun getting ready for Christmas!

RTC_3127

Now if you are impatient to make one for the coming fall, hop on over and buy a copy now. Otherwise don’t forget to enter the Rafflecopter giveaway for your chance to win The Cupcake Top along with 11 other PDF Patterns!

2months and So Stinkin Cute with Terra’s Treasures!

birthdaybash

Two months here we come!! Today we are taking a look at Terra’s Treasures Monkey Pants!! Seriously these are too SKINKIN’ cute (I’m cracking up here by the way, just wait; you will figure it out in a bit)!!!

1

Let’s see how Ruth is growing before diving into the pattern though. She is getting bigger and weighing in at 8lbs 3oz and 21inches long. That was how big her oldest brother was when he was born! On her two month birthday she gave mommy the best present ever!  Her first intentional smile!!! She’s working on head control but hates tummy time! She was a Princess for Halloween.  She still gets up in the night to eat but lucky for Mommy goes right back to sleep after. She loves bath time.  She is a tooter too! Ruthie can rival any man in that department. Are you catching on to why I was cracking up?? It will become very clear soon enough.

pic

Now I have tested for Terra several times and just love all her patterns. She has some awesome pants (my personal favorites are her pants!) and awesome shirt patterns too. . Of course her tutorials walk you through every step so even beginners can sew these up with no problems. Most come in a wide variety of sizes, which is a plus again! The Monkey Pants are more for the little ones though, sizes 0-3mo to 5T. Why you ask? Well just look at that bum!! Somehow I don’t think the bigger kids would want to walk around with a skunk or fox on their rump. Although this bigger kid wouldn’t mind!! Yes these are a relaxed knit pant with a bum panel for diaper room. There are two versions of this pant though. There is one for cloth diapers and one for disposable diapers. You can make these plain, but what’s the fun in that? Included in the pattern are the appliqué templates for the skunk, monkey, fox and penguin. You could get creative on your own and really do any animal your heart desires! Think of all the fun you could have!

3

For Ruth I made the skunk! Now do you understand why I was cracking up earlier??

2

For your chance to win this pattern along with all the other patterns you need to head on over to the Rafflecopter to enter!! So just click this link: a Rafflecopter giveaway to enter! Now if you don’t want to wait, which I totally would understand then head on over to Etsy to buy the pattern for disposables or cloth kiddos!

Don’t forget to stop back to continue to watch Ruth grow!!!
